In 2024 - the election year - i-CITY fully asserted its place at the heart of the administration, strengthening its operational proximity with the City's departments. This day-to-day integration enabled us to refine our understanding of needs on the ground and develop digital solutions that are more efficient, more secure and better adapted to the expectations of citizens and staff alike.
Despite these challenges, 2024 saw many concrete, structuring deliverables.
i-CITY :
- provided essential technical and logistical support to the City for the unprecedented organisation of the electoral polls
- continued the digitisation of products and services for the citizens of the City of Brussels - 18 new digital processes and the creation of an application that gives citizens access to City news (events, special announcements, diary, etc.) and to all digitised products and services,
- has used data to better inform citizens and staff, including regarding high-profile projects such as City in 10 minutes” and “Major Urban Projects”', whose aim is to get closer to citizens through communication and to match citizens' needs with the City's infrastructure,
modernised IT tools: more than 40 projects to upgrade and secure buildings and projects to modernise obsolete applications
-validated the City of Brussels' security policy,
-reduced the vulnerability of IT tools, secured dozens of the City's sites and raised awareness of cyber risks among several thousand employees- was rewarded for the work of its teams with the "Data News project of the year" award
- prepared its new IT Master Plan, which mapped out the path to be followed by i-CITY at both organisational and technological levels based on the ambitions of the City of Brussels administration.
Now more than ever, i-CITY is positioning itself as a key player in the transformation of Brussels into a true Smart City, combining responsible innovation, quality public service and constant adaptation to institutional, human and technological challenges.

The 2024 elections: Rising to the challenge together
In 2024, the European, federal, regional, and municipal elections were held in the same year. This exceptional context meant that all the parties involved had to prepare thoroughly from the outset.
i-CITY played a key role in supporting the city by, coordinating the technical, logistical and digital aspects. Our teams worked for over a year to guarantee the reliability of the electoral process and the wellbeing of voters and staff.
In concrete terms, i-CITY :
- equipped 101 polling stations with the required materials
- followed up with suppliers (voting machines, tallying systems)
- provided technical support during election weekends
- managed the installation and removal of working environments from municipal offices
Some ten local authority departments were involved in the electoral process, and several election weekends were covered.
